The Heavier the Liquid, The Greater the Density
ABSTRACT:
For our experiment today, we want to check if that anything that has higher density compared to the water, will sink into the water. We start by adding an egg, for example, to a cup filled with water to its half, the egg will sink. However, when we add salt to the water and put the egg again, the egg will float in the water instead of sinking. This result proved our hypothesis of why objects float and some other objects sink in water, and that’s because of the great or low amount of density of water.
INTRODUCTION:
Since we were kids, we always used to discuss the case of how density can affect moving or still objects. This experiment is a great source for people who are willing to dig in and know the reasons why certain problems or cases happen in our daily life. The example of the egg and the water was always a case that kids or teenagers didn’t all know of and just ignored that it happens. We should know how high density can affect water and change its effect on other objects whether you add salt or any type of material with high density in it.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
The materials used in this experiment were water, salt, transparent glass, eggs, and a spoon.
The first part of the experiment is when an egg was added to half a cup of water. We realized that the egg sunk in the water to the bottom of the cup.
The second part of the experiment is when a lot of salt was added to another half cup of water and stirred well. After that, we added an egg again and realized that it floated in the water unlike the first time. This is the best way we can prove our hypothesis about density because salt has a lot of density, which increased the density of the water.
RESULTS:
In the first part of the experiment, we only added the egg to the half-filled cup of water, and the egg sank in the water. However, in the second experiment, we added salt and then an egg to the water, which increased the density of the water, so the egg floated in the cup.
DISCUSSION:
We can now assure that our hypothesis that anything that has higher density compared to water will sink in the water was correct and valid. This was 100% experimented correctly and validated because the girl in the video tried it on both cases, once without salt. which makes the water less dense than the egg and once with salt which makes the water heavier than the egg.
CONCLUSION:
The purpose of this experiment was to learn how density can affect water and objects surrounding it, which I find a very important experiment because water is the number one usage element in our daily life, and it is necessary to know these kinds of characteristics of water. The hypothesis has been proven right and I think people should be aware of the characteristics and the causes and the effects of what they’re consuming or using in their daily routine.
